After years of feeling trapped in the daily grind, we made a life-changing decision: to embrace full-time travel as a way to reconnect as a family and explore the world around us. The idea of hitting the open road ignited a spark in our hearts, prompting us to trade the familiar comforts of home for the thrill of adventure. We envisioned sunrises over mountain ranges, spontaneous detours to hidden gems, and the laughter of our kids echoing through wide-open spaces. With our trusty Class A motorhome as our new home base, we set out on a journey not just to see new places, but to create lasting memories together and discover what it truly means to live fully.
Letting Go of Comforts and Embracing the Unknown
Leaving behind the familiar comforts of home wasn’t easy, but we felt it was necessary. There’s a certain safety in routines and familiarity, but it often left us feeling as if we were moving through life on autopilot. Trading our house for an RV forced us to rethink what was essential. Our closets, once overflowing, were now simplified to only what we really needed. We let go of distractions, and in doing so, we found more space in our lives to be truly present with each other.
This shift didn’t just change our physical environment—it changed our mindset. We were no longer tied to schedules that seemed to control our lives. Instead, we began to focus on each other and our shared experiences, which brought us closer as a family.
Lessons from the Road: Embracing Minimalism and Togetherness
As we settled into our new rhythm, we discovered the freedom that comes with a simpler, smaller lifestyle. There was something powerful about having fewer things to take care of, fewer chores to stress over (except sweeping-why so much sand?!), and fewer barriers between us and the world outside. In those early months, our time was no longer divided between work, home, and obligations. We woke up each day with the sole purpose of spending time together.
We’re able to show our children so much more of the world than we ever thought possible. Instead of reading about history or geography, they’re experiencing it firsthand. Every hike, every new town, and every person we meet becomes part of their education and our shared journey.
Don’t Be Afraid to Leap
We know that full-time travel might not be the right choice for every family. It’s been an adventure filled with countless joys, but also challenges that have tested us. We’ve had moments where we questioned if we made the right decision, especially during difficult times like mechanical breakdowns, financial stress, or the loss of loved ones. It’s easy to romanticize life on the road, but reality has a way of bringing balance to even the most exciting dreams.
But through it all, we’ve learned that with loss and challenge comes clarity. Facing these moments head-on has made us stronger and more resilient as a family. Priorities become clearer when you’re reminded that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. This journey has taught us to focus on what matters most: each other, our health, and the memories we’re building together.
Unexpected Rewards and Realizations
There’s an incredible feeling that comes when you realize you’re truly living life on your own terms. Some of the most rewarding moments have been the ones we never planned: stumbling upon hidden trails, finding a beautiful beach to explore, or watching the sunset with people who, minutes before, were complete strangers.
Watching our kids grow up in such an open, ever-changing environment has been a gift. They’ve developed an openness to new experiences and a love of adventure that we hope will stay with them forever. Seeing the world through their eyes reminds us daily of why we took this leap.
Choosing a Life Lived Fully
This journey has shifted our perspective on what it means to live a full life. For us, it’s about slowing down, choosing experiences over things, and putting family at the center of our story. Full-time travel may not be for everyone, but we believe that each family can benefit from stepping away from routine and embracing whatever brings them closer together.
Our hope is that others might find inspiration in our story—not necessarily to take up travel, but to re-evaluate what makes life meaningful to them. Whether that’s more time with loved ones, more moments in nature, or simply saying “yes” to the unknown, we hope you’ll take the leap to live your own version of a full life.
